Smart manufacturing is the fusion of manufacturing process technology with disciplines such as computer technology and data science to improve the quality and efficiency of factory floor operations and gain monitoring of production floor status. Smart manufacturing has multiple layers of technology components, including intelligent machines, human-machine interaction, data analytics, process sensing and control, process automation, information systems and computing, to form the factory of the future by driving the digital transformation of manufacturing. Through the in-depth introduction and analysis of intelligent manufacturing equipment and processes, intelligent sensing instruments, and manufacturing process state monitoring and control, this course teaches some key fundamental knowledge required to implement intelligent manufacturing, with the aim of introducing what makes manufacturing machines "smart" within the smart manufacturing arena.
